Paul and Karen Johnson are experienced and popular medico-dental tour leaders.
Paul Johnson qualified in dentistry in Leeds in 1979 and medicine in Cambridge in 1984. He was appointed consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He lectures widely on maxillofacial and facial plastic surgery. In private practice he specialises in oral surgery, implantology and facial cosmetic surgery. Paul is experienced at leading dental tours for Jon Baines Tours.
Karen obtained a first class degree in Medical Sciences at Jesus College, Cambridge, followed by clinical training at Addenbrookes Hospital. House jobs in Addenbrookes and Bury St Edmunds were followed by GP vocational training in Stoke on Trent and East Grinstead. Karen worked widely as a GP before making the decision to retrain as a barrister at the College of Law in Guildford and London, followed by pupillage in Hardwicke Building, Lincoln’s Inn. She was a tenant in Guildford Chambers before joining Hailsham Chambers in Temple - one of the country’s foremost clinical negligence sets, where Karen developed her practice in clinical negligence, inquests and in her main area of expertise, regulatory law. She appeared frequently before the NMC and also appeared before the GMC. She represented the first client to appear before the Court of Appeal in a test case brought by the newly formed CRHP and represented the Panorama undercover nurse who was struck off before a public outcry and successful high court appeal. The result was a caution and a happy client. Now retired, Karen enjoys travelling, golf, skiing and spending time with family.
